The Vietnam Veterans Memorial features 58,318 names etched onto black granite, honoring American service members who died or went missing in the Vietnam War. Dedicated in 1982, the wall lists names chronologically by date of casualty. The names on the Wall start at the center (Panel 1E) in 1959, continue to the end of the east wall (70E), then resume at the far end of the west wall (70W), finishing back at the center (1W) with deaths from the 1970s and later. A diamond symbol appears beside the names of those confirmed dead or missing.
